By Julie | The Seasonal Way

When summer arrives, it brings more than sunshine — it brings momentum. This is the season of the Fire Element, of the Heart and Small Intestine, and with that comes a natural invitation to move.

After over 50 years of living with movement as my anchor, I can honestly say: this is the time of year to prioritise cardiovascular health. Not out of obligation, but out of joy. There’s less to hide behind (unless you live in Scotland like I do! 😉), and more reason to feel great in your body.

Why Cardio in Summer?

Because your heart wants to work — and your body is more open to movement when the air is warm, the sun is up, and your energy is rising. Summer is designed for sweat and circulation. And cardio does wonders for:

  • Strengthening the heart muscle
  • Improving oxygen delivery to every cell
  • Boosting energy and mental clarity
  • Enhancing mood and resilience

My Top Summer Moves

💓 Walking uphill (especially in a hot climate!) — a full-body, heart-friendly workout
💦 Water rowing at home — folds away neatly, gives a full-body low-impact burn
☀️ Sun Salutations A & B — 8–10 rounds 5 days/week = breath + fire + flow
🌀 Bonus: Dolphin dips, salsa dancing, cold showers or sea dips, depending on where you live!

Then of course the other option is to blow the tires up of that bicycle that is in the shed or the garage and start to cycle, whether permitting, my favourite way to get about, have to admit only a Fairweather cycler, but this mode of amazing transport is accessible to most.

This is not just fitness — it’s circulation of joy, expression of spirit, and energetic alignment with the season.

Why Yoga Sun Salutes?

They’re not just exercise — they’re sacred rhythm. Linking breath with movement, they stoke inner fire while calming the mind. And they help you feel centred, strong, and emotionally clear — all in 10 minutes. here is a link to a short set of sun salutes, with me, please take it easy if you haven’t practice for awhile. Move like your heart depends on it — because it does.
Let this summer be a season of strength, sweat, and true vitality.

With love and breath-linked movement,
